Quepos

Quepos is the nearest town to Manuel Antonio and is surrounded by primary rainforest and water. Although small, Quepos is growing quickly thanks to tourism, the area's leading employer.

HISTORY

In the late 1800's, vast banana plantations were developed throughout the region and bananas were shipped to world markets across the same docks that now service the sportfishing fleet attracting a multitude of tourists each year.

When the bananas lost out to heartier African palms and their high quality palm oil in the 1980's Quepos started its evolution into a premier holiday destination. With the main focus nowadays being ecotourism and sportfishing, Quepos still retains some of its relaxing village lifestyle nestled in the midst of natural beauty and just a stonethrow away from the wilderness of Manuel Antonio.
