Manuel Antonio

Manuel Antonio is the smallest of the 20 national parks in Costa Rica that have been put aside for total protection. It includes 1700 acres of lush land mass and 135,906 acres of marine reserve - and a multitude of representatives of the wide variety of both flora and fauna that exists in Costa Rica.

But small is mighty in this case, Manuel Antonio boasts the second most visitors for any of the many tourist attractions that Costa Rica has on offer, and is only surpassed by the Poas Volcano. Last year alone, 143,520 tourists visited the park.

In order to protect the park from this high interest of visitors, Conservation officials have fixed the park's carrying capacity for each day, and will ruthlessly close the park as soon as these quotas are fixed, so get there early in order not to miss the possibility to see the park and all its wonderful inhabitants.
