BY BUS There are many buses a day to Quepos from the  Coca Cola bus station in down town San Jose. Direct Buses leave a few times a day, cost around $5 and will take 3 and ½ hours to get you to Quepos from San Jose. Indirect buses take about an hour longer, cost a little less, and are more frequent in the day.

Always remember to keep an eye on your belongings at all times. The bus driver will give you a claim ticket for them as he puts them in the storage under the bus, but do remember that at no point is your luggage 100% safe so do not bring too many irreplaceable valuables or items of emotional value.

BY TAXI

If you want to go for the easy option upon arriving at the airport in San Jose (SJO), you can jump in a taxi. The trip down to Manuel Antonio will cost you approximately $120, but is sometimes open for discussion.

Outside the airport you can choose between orange taxis or red taxis, both of which are legal. You will be approached by illegal taxis and people wanting to help you. However nice this might seem, do remember that illegal taxis don’t carry the same insurance as legal ones do, and make up your mind depending on how risk averse you are.

RENTING A CAR

If you reserve a car ahead of time, the company of choice can send a car to the airport to pick you up. The drive is fairly simple as there is only one road for most of the trip and most of the way it is cleary sign posted. Read our Driving Instructions page for a more detailed explanation on how to get there. Prices of rental cars depend on the season and the type of car, but is usually cheaper during the wet season. Again, we suggest getting your insurance sorted with the rental company before heading off.

FLYING

If you decide to miss out on the scenic route, you can fly to Quepos Airport in 20 minutes from San Jose. Two companies fly into Quepos, Sansa , the national airline, and Nature Air and you can book online with both.
